Iron Medal for Valour
Pingat Besi Kerana Jasa Dan Keberanian
The Iron Medal of Valour was commissioned in 1894 by Sultan Abu Bakar. Two classes were awarded – the first was for acts of courage and valour and the second was for highly meritorious acts such as saving a person’s life.
The design is based on a stylisation of the Islamic crescent moon and star. Inscribed along the upper edge of the crescent in Arabic are the words “By the Power of Allah”. The First Class medal is reserved for civil servants, military personnel, the police and the prison service. The Second Class medal is meant for civilians. Both classes share the same ribbon. However, the First Class medal is topped by a silver brooch and the Second Class medal a black brooch. In 2015, HRH Sultan Ibrahim decreed for the medal to be revived.
