Brunei Golden Jubilee Medal

2017 was a momentous year for Brunei. The nation took to the streets to celebrate the 50th year of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s ascension to the throne. ROYAL INSIGNIA is incredibly honoured to be given the opportunity to craft His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee medals.

The medal was instituted in three classes to commemorate the 2017 Golden Jubilee of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The three classes are identical except for the metal from which they are made– Gold, Silver and Bronze.

During the golden jubilee celebrations in Brunei, many would have noticed the newly minted golden jubilee medal resting on the chest of the Sultan of Brunei as well as the many foreign dignitaries that graced the event. Notable dignitaries include the Earl and Countess of Wessex as well as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore.

Working closely with the office of His Majesty, we designed a medal that incorporated many elements unique to His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee. The flora motif decorating the circumference of the medal was adapted from similar motifs found on the royal crown. Each of the motif was designed with five petals to represent the coronation date (5th October, 1962) and His Majesty’s fifty years reign.
